The GA-2100 arrived in 2019 and quickly became the most recommended G-Shock on the internet. The nickname "CasiOak" comes from the octagonal bezel, which draws an obvious comparison to a certain Swiss luxury sports watch. The comparison is superficial — but the watch underneath is genuinely good, and it is the reason this reference sits at the top of the G-Shock range.
Why it stands out
Most G-Shocks are thick. The GA-2100 is not. At roughly 11.8mm it is one of the slimmest G-Shocks Casio makes, and it achieves that with a Carbon Core Guard structure — a carbon-fibre-reinforced resin case that provides shock protection without the bulk of the traditional layered construction.
The result is a G-Shock that fits under a cuff. That is not a small thing for a line built around toughness first.
Key specifications
- Case: approximately 45.4 × 44.4 × 11.8mm
- Weight: around 51g
- Water resistance: 200M
- Display: analog-digital combination
- Shock resistance: yes, Carbon Core Guard
- Battery: approximately 3 years (CR2016)
Note the battery figure. The standard GA-2100 is not solar. If you want solar charging you need a different reference — this catches people out regularly.
Sizing: does it wear large?
On paper 45mm sounds substantial. In practice the GA-2100 wears smaller than the number suggests, because the octagonal bezel cuts the visual mass at the corners and the lug-to-lug is short. It sits comfortably on wrists from around 16cm upwards.
The thinness does most of the work here. A 45mm watch that is 12mm thick wears very differently to a 45mm watch that is 16mm thick.
GA-2100 vs GA-2110: what changed?
The GA-2110 is essentially the same watch with a different bezel and dial treatment — most visibly, applied index markers rather than the printed indices of the base GA-2100. Case dimensions, module and water resistance are shared. Choose on looks; there is no functional upgrade.
The variant maze
Casio has produced the GA-2100 in a very large number of finishes, and the reference suffix tells you which. A few patterns worth knowing:
- GA-2100-1A1 — the all-black "stealth" version, the most requested.
- GA-2100-1A — black case with contrasting white or grey markings.
- GA-B2100 — the Bluetooth and Tough Solar version. This is the one to buy if you want solar and phone time-sync.
- GM-2100 — the metal-bezel version, heavier and more substantial.
The trailing letters after the numeric suffix generally indicate the packaging market — ER, DR, CR and similar — rather than a different watch. Two references that differ only in those letters are the same model.
What it does not do
Being clear about this saves disappointment:
- No solar on the base GA-2100 — you need the GA-B2100
- No Bluetooth on the base model
- No world time on the analog-digital display beyond the standard sub-display functions
- The digital sub-display is small and low-contrast in dim light
Who should buy one
The GA-2100 is the right G-Shock if you want one watch that survives everything, fits under a shirt, and does not shout. If you want maximum toughness and do not care about thickness, the traditional square DW-5600 or the larger Mudmaster models make more sense.

Frequently asked questions
► Is the GA-2100 solar powered?
No. The standard GA-2100 uses a CR2016 battery lasting around three years. For solar charging and Bluetooth you need the GA-B2100.
► Can you swim with a GA-2100?
Yes. It is rated to 200M, which covers swimming, snorkelling and general water sports.
► Does the GA-2100 wear big?
Less than its 45mm figure suggests. The octagonal bezel and 11.8mm thickness make it wear closer to a 42–43mm watch.
► What is the difference between the GA-2100 and GA-2110?
Mainly the dial treatment — the GA-2110 has applied index markers instead of printed ones. Case size, module and water resistance are the same.
